Greetings, I’m Jean Claude!

Hello from Boneza, Rwanda! I'm a masonry student at Kivu Hills Academy (KHA). Besides studying, I also enjoy extra-curriculum activities at school like playing volleyball, and learning about carpentry and welding. My friends and I fix chairs, windows, and doors around the school campus when they are broken. My dream is to start a welding business and workshop in Boneza.

Bible Recipient Testimonies

News

Nearly 10,000 Bibles were distributed in Boneza. A partnership between Bible Society of Rwanda, American Bible Society, and Arise Rwanda has helped the Boneza village to access Scripture. The intention of this effort was to increase access to Bibles throughout the community, increase Scripture engagement, and promote Christian values for positive life transformation.

Joyeuse at KHA

Student Stories

The last born of 5 children, Joyeuse became an orphan at 8 years old. Born and raised in the community neighboring Boneza, she was raised by her elder siblings who struggled to find food and attend school at the same time. Her family was known in the community to be in dire need of help. With the help of local leaders, fellow villagers were encouraged to contribute towards her family’s survival.

Upon hearing about the KHA Scholarship program, Joachum immediately contacted KHA's Principal, Jean Claude, who gave him all the information he needed to know about the program. One week later he joined KHA. Joachim’s dream is to become a conservationist because wildlife and preserving the Rwandan culture are of a great value to him.

Meet Valentin, a KHA Graduate

Student Stories

Valentin, a KHA Masonry graduate, found himself blessed by the news that a donation made halfway around the world would change his life forever. Valentin would be going to school after all. Diving in immediately, Valentin flourished at KHA with no concern over school fees. He completed his education at Kivu Hills Academy and inspired other students to work hard and follow their passions. After graduation, he bought his own welding equipment.

My family had moved from Rwanda in 1960 and was exiled in Uganda because of the political tension and the wave of the first genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda had started.

Meet Cyeza

When Cyeza was asked what it means to have a cow she explained, “I haven’t had milk for so long.” She feels blessed to have milk again after 25 years when they lost their family cows during the Genocide. The family explains that they have hope now because they have a cow to provide milk, manure and income for their family. They are thankful to Arise Rwanda.

Emelythe says, “It’s our family cow. It will help us to get manure for our coffee plantation which has about 300 coffee trees, our banana plantation, and it will also provide milk for our children and an income to send the children to school in the future. This cow represents the journey of unity and reconciliation. This is a gift from Heaven! And we will pass on the calf to another poor family.”

Saleh is a Senior 6 Construction student at Kivu Hills Academy. He chose to join Kivu Hills Academy because of the standard of education as well as the hands-on approach to learning various trades. Unlike most rural schools, the students at KHA are provided all the equipment necessary to master their area of study. Due to his terrific leadership skills, Saleh was offered the position of Senior Prefects’ Advisor.

When Innocent joined Kivu Hills Academy, he could hardly speak a sentence in English. He can now comfortably speak the language and even guides tours of the campus to visitors from English speaking countries. This is a skill that not only helped Innocent build his confidence, but has also helped him win jobs to manage his school expenses. Innocent aspires to be a Civil Engineer.

Before joining KHA, Eric could not speak a single sentence in English. He is now in his final stretch at KHA.
